A commemorative American elm, Ulmus americana, was planted in 1942
in honor of George E. Stone, UMass professor and founder of the Massachusetts Tree Wardens’ and Foresters’ Association. The location is noted as the southwest corner of the Shade Tree Lab on the UMass Amherst campus.
