| ARBOR DAY TREE SEEDLING PROGRAM CELEBRATING ARBOR DAY |
| Arbor Day/Earth Day is a special day to recognize the importance of trees. Historically, it is a day set aside for the planting of trees and promoting the benefits trees provide to us and the environment. Arbor Day is a great opportunity to pass on this message to children and adults alike by providing tree seedlings for them to plant and care for. The Massachusetts Tree Warden and Forester’s Association is once again sponsoring a packaged seedling program for use by municipalities, garden clubs, private firms, arborists or any other individual or organization interested in promoting this historic occasion. The package includes seedling trees and printed plastic bags with planting instructions. Upon delivery, the seedlings can be placed in the bags along with soil or peat moss for distribution to school children and other Arbor Day participants. This may be accompanied by a ceremony or presentation promoting Arbor Day, trees and their value to people and the environment. This popular program is inexpensive, easy to implement, and readily embraced by educators and communities. Check with your local school department or municipality to obtain approval and required quantities. Other creative ideas that have been employed using the seedlings are: offering seedlings to those who recycle; promotional giveaways; recognition of an event; memorials; environmental awareness or as a fund-raiser. The seedlings listed include both evergreen and deciduous trees in two categories – seedlings and transplants. The transplants are more developed in both roots and tops, but more expensive. See the reverse size for details, prices and explanations. All seedlings and transplant prices include bags, ties, shipping and handling. Minimum orders will be limited to 100 seedlings. Offered in 2008 - We are offering a limited amount of pre-bagged evergreen seedlings. Minimum orders will start at 300. See order form for details. Net proceeds from this program are deposited in the Annual Scholarship Fund of the Massachusetts Tree Wardens and Foresters Association. These scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in arboriculture and urban forestry programs statewide. Please make all checks or purchase orders payable to the Massachusetts Tree Wardens and Foresters Association. One half of the total payment is requested with each order. Municipal purchase orders will be accepted in place of half payment. Early orders will increase your chance of getting the seedling species you requested. |
